the culture and history of Gibraltar

IMG_5800.JPG

One definite fact about Gibraltar is it is a unique little British overseas territory and I wanted to portray this within my work. This is a project I embarked on in my first year of university. Personally I find myself more driven when creating artwork that has links to me in some sort of way. Within this project my aim was to show my audience some of the interesting facts about Gibraltar through various medias such as sculpture, painting, print work, pencil and photography. For example some of these historic moments included a photograph which not only holds a close connection to Gibraltar but to me personally as a family member of mine snapped the ever-famous pic of John Lennon and Yoko Ono when they married in my hometown. My aim was to recreate a bigger three-dimensional version of the rock of Gibraltar and around it corresponding to the certain area of the rock have another creation of mine for example; where remains of neanderthal skulls have been found at the southern end of Gibraltar in caves I have a recreation of a neanderthal skull made with clay and painted with acrylic.
